Checkpoint
In which I take a look at the goals I set for myself back in January to see how it's going. Or not going, as the case most definitely often is...
As you may have guessed from the title and subtitle of this post, it’s that time of year where I check in on my goals.
For any new readers, I like to set myself a bunch of year-long goals in January. Some of these goals are doable, some are stretch goals, and others are completely delulu, but I decided to put on the list anyway. 🤷♀️
The past few years, I have done a terrible job of actually completing said goals (even the doable ones), but I keep doing it anyway (why am I thinking about the definition of ‘insanity’ at this very moment? 🤔) because I guess like to think that we never know what the year will hold until we try. Or something like that.
So, how is this year going? Well, there’s a more detailed breakdown of all the things coming up, but the TL;DR version is that I’m happy (and surprised) to say that I’ve done okay so far—accomplishing two of my major goals and chipping away (with various levels of success) at the others. I may not accomplish any of the remaining goals between now and December, but that’s okay. I’ve already accomplished more than I thought I would.
Anyway…On with the detailed recap!
What I’ve Done:
Published Love, Lies & Larceny
Attended TWO in-person author events & talked to people & even managed to sell some books. (Thank you, kind souls! Sorry for being so weird and awkward! 😬 I’d like to claim that it won’t happen again, but I am never not weird and awkward, so…yeah. Anyway, thanks for your support! If you decide to read my book, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.)
Launched shiny, new author website
Read 12 books for funsies. (I also edited/proofread a few manuscripts for authors, but I don’t count unpublished books in this number.)
The Current Status of My Main Writing Projects:
What’s Next:
Figuring out what to do with the problem otherwise known as Full Circle. The goal is to have this book out in the world by the end of the year, but I currently kind of…hate it with every fiber of my being, so I have to work out how to change that. Not sure what it will mean for the story. But I’m on the cover artist’s schedule for November, so I’m hoping to have everything worked out by then. If not…well, there’s always next year.
Starting to work in earnest on one of my first draft WIPs. It’s been a while since I’ve drafted a novel. I’m looking forward to seeing if I still remember how to do it. The Third One (a working title…probably.) will likely get the nod, as everything with The Coileáin Chronicles (my fantasy series, if you don’t already know) is up in the air until I solve the Full Circle problem.
Launch the online store portion of my website. It’s been in progress for a while, so I’d like to have it fully up and running soon. Soon-ish. By the end of the year. Maybe.
Read those two books I checked out of the library last month.
So, that’s gonna do it for me today.
Do you like to set goals? How’s your year been going so far?
Thanks for stopping by. Be safe and well, all. 🫶

I set goals every year, except for this one, which is weird. 🤔
Yeah I think you made a lot of progress! Well done!
I'm looking at my goals at the moment (literally procrastinating by writing this). So far, I'd say the most important things I managed so far was to sort out my mental and physical health to a large extent. Can't do anything else if I'm tired and sad all the time. ;-)
